City of Joy (2016) (2016)

Amidst two decades of brutal conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where sexual violence has been weaponized to devastate communities, "City of Joy" shines a light on resilience and empowerment. The narrative follows Jane, a student at a transformative center for women who have faced profound trauma, as they unite to reclaim their strength and become community leaders. Alongside Jane, the film highlights the inspiring founders: a dedicated Congolese doctor, a passionate activist, and a bold playwright from New York. Together, they forge a narrative of hope and solidarity in a landscape often overshadowed by despair.
