Blood in the Mobile (2010)

Blood in the Mobile exposes the grim reality behind smartphone production, revealing that many key minerals are sourced from conflict-ridden mines in Eastern DR Congo. This demand fuels a devastating civil war, described by human rights organizations as one of the bloodiest since World War II, resulting in over 5 million deaths and widespread atrocities, including the rape of 300,000 women. Director Frank Poulsen embarks on a journey to Congo, investigating the illegal mining operations dominated by armed factions and witnessing firsthand the exploitation, including child labor, that feeds into our modern technology.
